This clay project was inspired by Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog and Rabbit. When I saw these giant balloon animals at Broad Museum in Los Angeles, I did not realise the significance of Jeff Koons. I thought that the Balloon Dog and Rabbit were cute and clever. After all, I was used to seeing these balloon sculpting at kids’ parties and festivals, and these were the giant versions. Then I read how much these giant sculptures have been sold for. The Balloon Dog (Orange) sold for $53 million in 2013 and the Rabbit for $90 million in 2019! Thought I might have a go at making my homemade version instead. I thought we’d do these as clay projects because they looked easy to make. Well, it turns out to be trickier than I thought.
